I think by now it’s clear that I love DC Comics, even though they make it very hard for me to keep going back to them. While the trailers around Batman V. Superman have been discussed and examined ahead of it’s upcoming March release, the trailer for the film I’m most looking forward to has hit the net.
So let’s grab Garth and Wayne, cram into a car, crank up the Queen and take a look at the Suicide Squad trailer….
While Queen might have been an cliche choice at first, this trailer seeming tries to put to bed the no fun rule for the DC Comics films. The trailer is goofy and over the top while giving us a look at some of the major players in the film; Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman) and Joker (Jared Leto).
In short the trailer is tight and features a lot of the sound cues that we’ve come to expect from modern trailers. But this film still doesn’t feel like a Guardians of the Galaxy knock-off, it feels like there’s going to be a lot of darkness behind the film. This isn’t a story about a man, an alien and a Amazonian fighting a CGI monster, this is about over the top villains fighting…something.
There’s still a lot of mystery around this film and that’s intriguing. Who’s the villain? Is it Joker? Is it Enchantress (Cara Delevingne)? How much Batman are we gonna see? Is there any way I can get Cara Delevingne’s number without St. Vincent burying me alive in an odd music video?
My loneliness aside, the trailer looks fun, and that’s something that all comic book films need, fun. Sure it looks a little cliche and corny, but this is just a look at what the film is. Hopefully this is a better example of the tone rather then the preview that we saw at Comic Con. Only time will tell.
Suicide Squad will be released on August 5th in North America and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
