Here’s your recap of the major news items of the week in the world of anime, television, film and video games.
Let’s jump right in.
Ant-Man finds new director
After a bumpy past couple of week with Edgar Wright leaving the project, Marvel asking but then not asking directors now it seems they’ve found a new helm. Now Peyton Reed (Yes Man) has agreed to take on the project. This is a bit of an odd choice considering most of his films have been comedies, but here’s hoping that the film will be solid.
Pacific Rim 2: Electric Boogaloo
So it seems that there might be a sequel to Pacific Rim. While Del Toro is currently working on Crimson Peak, he said in an interview for the upcoming series The Strain that he’s working on the script with Zak Penn. According to Penn the script isn’t going to be a prequel but something that continues the story and is different from the original. According to Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull “If we can crack the story, we all think it’s great, and it’s him at the helm, then fantastic. But right now there’s nothing going on officially to proclaim.”
So even before the doors of E3 opened a trailer for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain hit the web. The next day on E3 an English version was released. The trailer, directed and edited by series creator Hideo Kojima, features mostly cut scene footage of the upcoming game. What we’re shown put’s a smile on my face. From what looks like an early Big Shell to Big Boss mourning over his fallen comrades, this trailer gives fans something more to look forward to until it’s release in 2015.
So E3 was this past week and instead of writing about everything that happened here’s the cliff notes of what I think was important; Batman: Arkham Knight: In short it looks awesome. The video show’s off the Batmobile and it looks like I’ll be living out my Batman fantasies to the fullest when it hits stores next year. No Man’s Sky: a space flight game that let’s you go to new planets and walk around space dinosaurs like a simulator of Dinosaur Train (aka the greatest show on TV). Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End: looks like the franchise that sold the Ps3 is making it’s way to the next generation. The trailer doesn’t give us a lot of information other than the fact this might be the final instalment, which is fine with me as I’ve been waiting for a new Jak and Daxter for a while now. Far Cry 4: Ok so get this, in Far Cry 4 you can run around in a wooded environment and kill humans and animals. I know crazy, but the real question is, will the game’s DLC be Blooddragon related? Assassins Creed Unity: While the trailer doesn’t feature the Operation Ivy song, it does look like it has some interesting co-op gameplay. More Tom Clancy Stuff: Despite the lacklustre Jack Ryan film, Ubisoft continues to make money off of the passed writer. This year two games were shown of Rainbow Six: Siege and the Division. In my opinion the latter of the two is more interesting. Halo Stuff: Not only is Halo 5 coming but so is the Master Chief collection, a repackaged collection of all of the main Halo titles. Or as I call them, the uninteresting ones. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare: Or as it should be know, the one with Frank Underwood. It looks like COD but with futureish weapons. Star Wars Battlefront: This video features little gameplay and it’s already got me excited thinking about the hours I dumped into the original two games. Rockstar dropped by to inform fans that GTA V will be coming to Ps4 and Xbox One and multiplayer progress will carry over and who knows maybe heists might be available on that version. Bioware posted a video updating fans on their two next game; a new nameless IP and Mass Effect 4. And finally, Bungie showed off their upcoming game Destiny. The game seemingly features Peter Dinklage as one of the characters. A few videos for the upcoming Kingdom Hearts III game were also featured during the show. And finally, Nintendo announced that they’re working on a new Legend of Zelda game for the Wii U. The game, apply named Legend of Zelda Wii U, looks good and the video features a different looking Link shooting arrows at…something.
Evangelion/ Transformers Crossover? Sure why not?
Since the reboot of Evangelion the franchises marketing machine has been in full force. Whether it’s a branded MP3 player that looks like a cassette player or shaving related merchandising almost anything is possible. So when they announced a Evangelion/Transformers Crossover action figure it didn’t seem that crazy. The Optus Prime features the paint job of Eva 1 and the box seemingly has a backstory where it explains how the two mixed. Pre-order the figure for a whopping $300.
Possibly maybe 20 minutes of Avengers
According to a few sources a rundown of the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron hit the net. If your interested in reading what could be the first 20 minutes click here.
Brad Pitt”s Fury
Bridging the gap between featurette and trailer comes a video for the upcoming Brad Pitt WWII film Fury. Fury’s plot revolves around a tank platoon during the final days of the war. The film features actors other than Pitt, including too much too fast Shia Labeouf. The film is currently set for a November release.
Blah Blah Blah in Sin City
I was kinda shocked when I heard that they were going through with the sequel to Sin City, what with The Spirit being as awful as it was. But it looks like co-director/chaperon Robert Rodregas is pushing the film forward. This time the trailer really makes the film look interesting. While I’m still not completely sold, here’s hoping the film is good when it arrives on August 22.
In wrestling news, the WWE released eleven talents from the company this past Thursday. The eleven are; 3MB’s Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal, Aksana, Curt Hawkins, Theodor Long, Camacho (he was still around?), Brodus Clay, Evan Bourne, JTG, Yoshi Tatsu and referee Marc Harris. While some of these aren’t surprising if you watch the current product, the inclusion of McIntyre and Mahal is surprising as they were often booked as jobbers. Sadly, this puts an end to the reign of JTG, whom hadn’t had a match on TV in a long time. He left this gem on his Twitter account sometime after getting the news.

Upcoming Justice League meetings
In possible super-hero film news, the maybe, kinda, sorta schedule for upcoming DC Comics films hit the web. The list would go all the way to 2018. Batman V Superman (May 2016), Shazam (July 2016), Sandman (December 2016), Justice League (May 2017), Wonder Woman (July 2017), Flash and Green Lantern cross-over (December 2017) and Man of Steel (May 2018). This would be a pretty packed line up especially considering the lack of films up until then. I would like to note the one that doesn’t really match the rest of the films, Sandman. While this could be a solid film, it’s not really related to Justice League films is it? Anyway if this is true then DC fans will be eating a lot of popcorn.
In sequel news it’s been announced that Sigourney Weaver will be returning to the Avatar sequel but as a different character. Another trailer for the the upcoming Constantine show features a appearance of Dr. Fate’s helmet. Steven Spielberg wants to bring Brian Cranston’s performance of LBJ to TV. Clone High co-creators Phil Lord and Chris Millar said during an interview for their newest film 22 Jump Street that there might be a Clone High film in the future. Plan your makeovers now. Persona 4 The Golden Animation starts broadcasting in Japan on July 10th. The title is an updated verison of the story adding elements of Persona 4 Golden. Sony is trying to turn Sonic into a film franchise. Law and Order: Criminal Intent star Vincent D’Onofrio has been cast as Kingpin for the Netfilx Daredevil series. MMA star Chael Sonnen announced his retirement after failing a random drug test. Remember him well, by watching his trash talking promos. Bryan Cogman (Game of Thrones) is taped to write a feature film based upon the Magic: The Gathering card game. Sadly it won’t look like this. Harrison Ford breaks his ankle on set of Star Wars 7. The production will continue while he heals.
