At one point in a popular filmmakers career it often happens that they’re called the next insert name here. While this title can be a honour in most cases, it can also be a burden and haunt one’s career.
Let’s not forget that once M. Night Shyamalan was once called the Next Spielberg by the media. I mean look how that turned out.
However, when someone is called the new Hayao Miyazaka anime fans should take notice. The man who brought us Castle in the Sky, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Porco Rosso and others is one of the names that even the most casual of anime fans should know.
So for the month of June, I’ll be taking a look at the works of Makoto Shinkai, the man who on a number of occasions has been called this generations Miyzaka.
